SHINE a LIGHT in El Salvador
October 2-11, 2015
On October 2-11, 2015 our Mission 5IVE.14 team traveled down to El Salvador to serve at Love & Hope Children's Home again. This year it was all about a young woman named Rina.
Rina is 20 years old and has severe cerebral palsy. Love & Hope has been supporting Rina with food, clothing, and medical supplies since she was 11 years old but her living situation with her mother had become extremely unhealthy to the point of having to remove her from a possible fatal situation. Bobby & Britney Hibbs are two American missionaries living in the town on Nejapa which is situated just north of San Salvador. They run the Love & Hope Youth Ministry and have been overseeing Rina's care. They knew they needed to do something for Rina as her living situation grew worse and worse. So they felt the call to ask the Medina family if they would consider fostering Rina and taking her into their own home. Miraculously, they agreed without hesitation.
So collectively we decided we'd bless the Medina's by building an additional room for Rina on their home along with construction of a new security wall around their property. Through the generous hearts of over 250 individuals, we were able to hire a local contractor and his team to build everything and our team went down to expedite the construciton for several days. We also continued building our relationships with the kids at Love & Hope and got to bless them with a day at the beach as well.
